Needs to be said, and needs to be reminded. What’s awesome about these conferences, and why I go is for two things: learning and networking. Platitudes and one-upmanship takes away from the delicious buzz you get from working and living on the edge of where technology is taking us. And where it is taking us is a place to integrate, collaborate, be individuals who work together for something greater. There’s no need for the bullshit posturing, nor is there time. Things are changing fast. I think for the better. It’s a shame to slow it down.

Sounds like a typical boys night out after a football game. I too would have been turned off by the swearing. Advice of the kind presented is easily obtained from a drinking buddy. I would have expected a lot more from an event such as this. Thanks Petra for such a good summary of the issues and the event. Hopefully you are right and the industry will eventually ‘grow up’.
